Carpal tunnel

The carpal tunnel is formed by the wrist bones and a ligament, through which nine tendons and the median nerve pass. Symptoms of this syndrome include numbness and weakness in the hand and pain in the hand and wrist, and it is typically a repetitive use syndrome.

Interestingly, the carpal tunnel typically not the sole structure leading to this symptom constellation; clinically, the median nerve becomes adhered and trapped between muscle groups at multiple points along its path from where the nerve roots exit between the vertebrae in the neck and traverses the upper arm, crosses the elbow and enters the hand. This is where a comprehensive history and examination assists design of a targeted and inclusive treatment plan.
