Sports Injuries

As kids get involved in physical activities like dance and sports, they experience both acute and repetitive stress injuries. Just like in adults, repeated movements strengthen the muscles as they repair, but this process also creates scar tissue. Over time, scar tissue contracts, limiting muscle function and causing compensation to keep playing or dancing. Additionally, running, jumping, and collisions put stress on the joints as they absorb these forces, which can become misaligned and restrict movement, further leading to compensation. These processes contribute to repetitive stress injuries in young athletes.

Compounding these factors, kids are also undergoing significant neuromuscular development. This stage of rapid growth combined with high activity levels makes injuries highly likely. The most common injuries in active children affect the back, neck, knees, and ankles, often resulting from an impact, collision, or motor control error. Chiropractic care helps recover from these injuries by using adjustments, myofascial release, and rehabilitative exercises. For more severe injuries such as moderate ankle sprains or tendonitis, low-level laser therapy may also be incorporated to accelerate healing and return to the field.
