Thoracic pain

Pain in the thoracic spine is common, particularly in the region we often refer to as the mid-back. The most frequent cause of it is restriction of the vertebrae and hyperactivity of the overlying muscles. Often a repetitive stress injury from sustained posture such as desk-jockeying, a significant underlying cause and contributor to this injury is loss of normal spinal curve lower down in the spine.

When the vertebrae can stack with appropriate curves in the low back, mid-back, and neck, this allows spinal posture to be maintained with the least amount of muscular effort. Most frequently, the lower back loses its curve, and the mid-back hyperextends to correct for that, leading to mid-back symptoms. Therefore, to address this injury and achieve long-lasting results, clinically we see the necessity of treating the whole body, including the hips and legs as myofascial tension and joint restriction in these regions sets the foundation for everything above.
