LASER THERAPY

Bursitis

Bursae are structures that under normal circumstances are painless and serve to reduce friction and improve sliding of tendons between each other and of tendon on bone. Bursae are referred to as ‘potential spaces’ because their structure is that of a collapsed, flat sack that has the potential to take up a lot of space when expanded. The diagnosis of bursitis occurs when these structures become irritated, fluid-filled, and cause pain and loss of motion.

The underlying cause of bursitis can be from an acute injury, chronic conditions, or repetitive use. Laser therapy serves to reduce the swelling in the bursae which improves range-of-motion and pain, and can also be used to treat the underlying cause of bursitis, particularly if it is a repetitive stress injury or a chronic condition like arthritis.
