Cervical Disc Herniations

Disc herniations are not as common an injury in the neck as they are in the low back and are characterized by acute neck pain, severe limitation in neck motion, and radiating pain into the arm with weakness. With this symptom pattern, the most likely cause is a significant rib fixation, therefore history and physical exam help to differentiate between these two conditions which have a vastly different recovery path.

For many people with this injury, the disc is directly contacting the nerve that exits the spine at that level. Additionally, inflammation around the spine further irritates the nerve roots in the vicinity of the disc injury leading to sharp, shooting, nerve pain. Laser therapy helps the body move through the inflammatory phase of the injury and accelerates healing of the disc and the nerves to reduce pain put you on the path to recovery.
