Trigger Points

Myofascial trigger points are hypersensitive nodules found within muscles: these nodules contain contracted muscles, irritated nerve endings, cellular waste, and have poor circulation. They can develop following physical injuries, and with mental and emotional stress, particularly in the neck and shoulder region.

Trigger points can cause local pain where they are found and refer to a far distance, mimicking headaches, pinched nerves, and joint pain; they also cause muscle weakness and limit range-of-motion. Myofascial trigger points can be treated effectively with manual release in many cases but for some that are very persistent, an alternative is required. Our Summus Horizon laser allows us to effectively target and treat these stubborn trigger points in a minimally invasive manner.
