ORTHOTICS

Leg Length Inequality

It's common to have slight differences in leg length, and asymmetry of less than one centimeter usually does not require treatment as it typically does not cause significant mechanical stress on the lower extremities or pelvis. However, when the discrepancy exceeds one centimeter, the compensation can place additional strain on the foot, ankle, knee, hip, pelvis, and lower back. This imbalance often leads to repetitive stress injuries and can contribute to the development of osteoarthritis and other ligament and cartilage injuries over time.

Custom orthotic therapy, which includes support for the arch and the use of a heel or foot lift to address the leg length discrepancy, can provide significant relief. By balancing the length of the legs, orthotics help reduce excess strain and prevent injury in the lower limbs and lower back, promoting better overall alignment and function.
