Torticollis

Torticollis is a common condition in newborns and has a wide range of severity. The easiest signs to spot are a head that is constantly tilted or twisted in the same direction. With increasing severity in the tilt or twist, the constant tension causes facial and cranial bones to shift as they are highly mobile in the first year of life. This leads to other more subtle indicators of torticollis which include eye asymmetry and drooling on one side of the mouth.

When left untreated it can contribute to breastfeeding difficulties, and over time leads to a general increase in tension and asymmetry in the body as the process of growth and development will work around this imbalance and compensate for it. Treatment for torticollis includes adjustments, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, with homecare supports.
